How Private Status Pages for Alation Cloud Customers Enhance Transparency

We are excited to share that a Private Status Page is now available for all Alation Cloud Service (ACS) customers, enabling our customers to more easily stay informed about their ACS deployments with updates pushed directly to subscribers.

With this new offer, Alation now provides customers with both a Private Status Page and the Public Status Page. These two pages complement each other.

The Public Status Page (status.alationcloud.com) was launched in mid-2023.  It has been instrumental in providing timely updates to customers about monthly software upgrades as we provide ACS customers with access to the latest innovations. It has also been helpful in communicating incidents that impact a broad number of customers.  There are hundreds of subscribers today, and anyone at your organization can subscribe at any time, after which they will be notified of status updates in real-time.

With the Private Status Page, each customer can see a dedicated view about their ACS deployment(s). The page contains the current status of each instance, the uptime percentage over the last 90 days, and postings about customer-specific incidents.

Benefits of the private status page for ACS

The benefits of the private status page include:

  • Enhanced transparency, giving you detailed updates directly affecting your resources.

  • Proactive notifications about potential issues to help you save time and reduce the need to open support tickets.

  • Increased communication from our product team, ensuring you are fully informed.

Let’s take a closer look at how the Private Status Page is beneficial to customers with two examples.

Customer-specific incidents

If there is an issue with a customer-specific resource that impacts the availability of ACS only for that customer, this would not be declared as an incident on the Public Status Page by design.  The Public Status Page does not cover customer-specific resources, and inclusion of less relevant information for some customers could result in lower effectiveness of the Public Status Page.  One of the principles that we have followed with the design of the Status Pages is that any message posted should be relevant to the audience.

If a customer-specific issue occurs that impacts the availability of ACS, then an incident will be posted on the Private Status Page of the impacted customer. This ensures that relevant information is made available to the relevant audience.

Detailed uptime percentage

The Public Status Page shows whether ACS is operational or not.  This is further segmented by region, as well as production vs. development environments.

With the Private Status Pages, we can show a more detailed view to customers that accounts for any customer-specific incidents as well. The detailed view includes

  • An uptime percentage over the last 90 days

  • A graphical representation with a color-coded vertical bar for each day

  • Ability to hover over each daily bar to get additional details about incidents that occurred on that particular day

This provides additional transparency to all ACS customers.

Here is an example of what the Private Status Page looks like for an internal Alation instance of Alation Cloud Service:
